National Finals Coming Up This Weekend & USA, Belgium and Canada Have Winners!

National Air Guitar Finals in UK, Malaysia and Japan this Weekend

Air Guitar World Championships are fast approaching, but before that there are a few national finals yet to be held.  UK, the promised land of old-school rock, will hold its national air guitar final in London on 6 August. Traditionally Brits have charmed the audience with their gentlemanly charm and cool moves, remains to be seen what will do the trick this year.

AGWC Network newcomer Malaysia will hold its first ever national final in the city of Penang on 8 August, when all 12 finalists will take the stage. On the same day one of the long-time members of the Air Guitar Family, Japan, holds its national final at Summer Sonic festival. There have been rumours that this year Japan will introduce something new into air guitar, stay tuned to find out what the surprise is!

Belgium, USA and Canada have national Champions

Three countries have chosen their national air guitar heroes. In Belgium the air guitar climax was reached in July, when the wannabe-champions rocked the stage at Dour Festival. Even though there were plenty of contestants, Fermont “AirGus” Corentin emerged as the winner and thus is the Belgian champion for the second year running.

Familiarity was the key to success in Canada, too. Cole “Johnny Utah” Manson won the title of national champion for the unbelievable third time running, and then stunned the audience with the announcement of his retirement. Johnny Utah will thus represent his country for the last time on the world final stage this year.

The US national final was held in New York on 22 July. After an airtight competition the defending champion Andrew “William Ocean” Litz had to settle for the fourth place when Matt “Romeo Dance Cheetah” Cornelison beat the other contestants and took the title of national champion.

The National Champions will take part in the Air Guitar World Championships Final in Oulu, Finland on 27 August. AGWC celebrates its 15th anniversary on 25 – 28 August, and this is guaranteed to be the party of the year. Welcome!
