The
chief editor of the cultural section in the Kaleva newspaper, Kaisu
Mikkola, juried the 5th Air Guitar World Championships with Juha
Torvinen. Eleven brave contestants took part in the first competition
of the new millennium, seven of them from Finland. The other
competitors hailed from Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, and India.
Oulu's own boy Markus "Black Raven" Vainionpää snatched the win from the
international group as the last Finnish Air Guitarist to date. On the
compulsory round the song played was Motörhead's trembling Ace of
Spades, which separated the wolves - or ravens - from the sheep.
