In 1998 the event was transferred to the Oulu Market Place as the interested audience grew bigger and bigger.
Also a British TV crew was present. Of the twelve competitors, the winner was an agile drama student called
Juha Hippi, being awarded with a Fender Stratocaster. A crowd around the world could join the party, because
the event was streamed live over the Internet. Finally all the people around the world were invited to play
the Air Guitar. Since then the night of Air Guitar has ended in people collectively playing the Air Guitar to
Neil Young's classic "Rockin' in the Free World".
