Australian and New Zealand Tryouts Also Under Way

Air Guitar World Championships starts up its 14th year with a new member in the international AGWC Network: Belgium joins in to the 2009 games. The official tryouts of the Belgian air guitar championships hit off on 20 February in Liege and witnessed the victory of God Has No Mercy, the first air guitarist to get through to the national finals. The next tryout takes place on 19 March in Brussels at the Delirum Café. The national air guitar final of Belgium will take place in July.

Belgium joined the network of the Air Guitar World Championships after a short break: the country was one of the official air guitar countries in 2003-2004. During the period, the international air guitar audience saw one of the most peculiar air guitar performances in history when Ron "Bucketbutt" Van den Branden took the stage wrapped in cellophane and wearing a rubber glove on his head in the 2004 world finals.

The first tryouts of the AGWC Network long-timers are also running: Australia and New Zealand are tuning their air guitars. The champion travelling to Oulu in August will be selected in the combined AUT & NZ national final on 13 June 2009. The champion of the two Southern countries will take the world stage with other national air guitar champions on 21 August 2009 in Oulu, Finland.
